1. Write the campaign objective
State the intended outcome in plain language before choosing metrics.
2. Define the conversion event
Choose the action that represents progress: signup, enquiry, sale, booked call or another concrete outcome.
3. Use consistent campaign parameters
Keep UTM naming predictable so acquisition reports do not fragment into many versions of the same source.
4. Compare quality, not just clicks
Look at conversion rate, cost where applicable, downstream quality and unsubscribe or complaint signals for email campaigns.
5. Run a short post-campaign review
Record what happened, what likely contributed and one change to test next. Avoid rewriting the whole strategy after one result.
